Santos Roberto “Bob” Peña passed away peacefully at his residence on August 5, 2026. He was born on May 6, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas to Fortunato Peña, Jr. and Melilia Esquivel Peña who preceded him in death along with his eldest sister Elida Peña Del Toro; his younger sister, Ernestina “Ernie” P. Ruiz; and his brother, Jorge Luis Peña.

Bob is survived by an older sister Oralia “Ora” P. Ruiz (Joel Ruiz) and his younger sister Norma Angelica P. Tatum. He is also survived by two nephews and two nieces who were raised by his parents when his eldest sister passed away. These nephews (Raul “Rudy” Peña Ramirez and Alfredo Peña Ramirez) and nieces (Graciela “Grace” P. Sanchez and Guadalupe “Lupe” P. Clark) were like brothers and sisters rather than nephews and nieces. Bob loved all his family equally. Other survivors include a brother-in-law (Eliseo Ruiz), four nieces (Amy Lugo, Sherri Lynn McClure, Melilia Rosa “Meli” Martinez, and Kimberly Barrera Peña), two nephews (Carlos and Oscar Ybarra), and numerous grand nephews and nieces, and great grand nephews and nieces. However, the most precious of his survivors are his two daughters, Genevieve P. “Gina” Lozano (Dr. Michael E. Lozano) and Cassandra Peña (Eric Crosson), and two wonderful granddaughters, Victoria Lynn Lozano and Ashley Elizabeth Lozano.

Bob was a lifelong San Angelo resident who was proud of his community and the life he built there. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1964 and Angelo State University in 1972. While attending college, Bob worked at his uncle Luis Esquivel’s barbershop. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Bob began a career with the federal government that spanned 28 years. Bob retired from federal service in August 2000, but retirement did not suit him too well. He had always been a hard worker. Therefore, he returned to full-time employment after working several part-time jobs. Bob worked several years for Crockett National Bank as the maintenance man, retiring once again due to illness.

Bob lived a quiet, unassuming life and enjoyed golf. He golfed two or three times per week and was always ready to go, no matter where the golf game was being played. He is very likely teeing off in Heaven with his golf buddies who went there before him.

Faith was also an important part of Bob’s life. He was raised in the Assembly of God faith before converting to Catholicism. Over the years, he attended Sacred Heart Cathedral, where he served in the youth ministry, as well as Holy Angels Catholic Church, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Angelo.

Bob often spoke about his desire to live a long life. He would say that he wanted to make it to at least 100 years old and would have loved the opportunity to see what the world might look like at 120. Yet, beneath his curiosity about the future was a deep acceptance that the length of his life was ultimately in God’s hands. He would say that if he didn’t make it to those milestones, then God’s will be done as to how long he was meant to enjoy his time on this earth.

Bob was always eager to help anyone who needed his help. It didn’t matter if the help consisted of physical labor, financial assistance, or just a shoulder to cry on. Those who knew him will remember him always with a smile on his face. Bob also leaves behind a very special companion, his beloved fur baby, Buddy, who was by his side and his best friend for 14 years. This is not goodbye, but ’til we meet again!
