Sylvia Day Maxwell

November 29, 1936 — January 17, 2021

Sylvia Day Maxwell, beloved mother, grandmother and friend went to be with Jesus on January, 17th, 2021 at the age of 84 in San Antonio, Texas. Sylvia was born November 29, 1936, in San Angelo, Texas to James Elmer Day and Julia Hitchcock Day. She attended Lakeview High School, where she played clarinet in the band and made artwork for the year book. Sylvia graduated as salutatorian of her class. On February 2, 1956, Sylvia married Earl Wayne Maxwell. As a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Sylvia sang in the choir, performing solos on occasion. In 1973, the family joined First Baptist Church where Sylvia and Earl were active members. Sylvia served for a number of years as a third grade Sunday school teacher. Being an artist, Sylvia used her talents to help decorate for large church events. Sylvia worked at GTE for eight years, until having children. She also served on the San Angelo Republican Committee. Sylvia loved oil painting and took art lessons at Angelo State University. She loved fishing; her most recent trip was fishing for redfish off of the gulf coast. At home, she loved working in the yard, enjoying keeping her yard beautiful for years. Sylvia, working with seamstresses, designed many of her own clothes. She loved to travel, enjoying the scenery and visiting friends. One of her favorite vacation spots was Pinetop, Arizona. She was known for rescuing cats, and providing a new home for many of them. Sylvia is survived by her son, Monte Maxwell of Arnold, Maryland, her son Lance Maxwell and his wife Karen, granddaughters Olivia and Julia, of San Antonio. Sylvia is survived by nephew Steve Ransom and his wife Charlotte, of Waco; niece Paige Carroll of San Marcos, Texas; niece Kate Driskell and husband, Eric, of Austin, Texas; niece Karen Capps of San Angelo, Texas; nephew Kylan Cope and his wife Dena, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephew Cody Cope of Amarillo, Texas; nephew Kirby Cope and his wife Christy, of Kaufman, Texas, nephew Clifford and his wife Edwina, of Odessa, Texas; niece Myra Marsh and husband Randy, of San Angelo Texas; and nephew Bruce Mayfield of San Angelo, Texas. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her parents, James E. Day and Julia Day, her sisters Sybil Connell and Jackie Mayfield and her brother Carroll Day. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 20th at 2 PM at Harper Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to West Texas Boys Ranch or Hospice of San Angelo.
