Troy Allen Choat

Troy Allen Choat, 82, a lifelong resident of Eden, Texas, passed away in Eden on July 28, 2026. He was born in Brady, Texas, to Rufus Henderson Choat and Koneta Faye (Sparks) Choat.

Troy married the love of his life, Mary Ann, on July 20, 1963, and the two shared 63 years of marriage together. He stood beside her in all of her educational and career endeavors throughout their years together.

A 1962 graduate of Eden High School, Troy was honored as a recipient of the FFA Lone Star Farmer award, an early sign of the deep connection to the land and to ranching that would define his life. He spent his years working with livestock, embracing the life of a rancher, and finding peace in the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and his love of nature.

Troy was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Eden, Texas, where he served as a Trustee. He also gave many years of service to his community as chairman of the Concho County ASCS county committee.

Above all, Troy held a deep love of God and his family. He took great joy in supporting his daughter through one-act play and sports activities, and later delighted in cheering on his granddaughters at their sporting events, band concerts, and dance recitals. Being present for the people he loved was, for Troy, one of life's greatest pleasures.

Troy is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Choat; his daughter and son-in-law, Cristi Choat Horton and Jimmy Horton; his oldest granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Judith Ann Lucas and Wolf Lucas; his youngest granddaughter, Jessica Laine Horton; and his brother, Dennis Glenn Choat.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Terri Denise Choat; his brother, Roy Wayne Choat; and his parents, Rufus Henderson Choat and Koneta Faye (Sparks) Choat.

Troy will be remembered as a true cowboy, for his quiet strength, his devotion to his faith and his family, and the love of the land that shaped his whole life. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, steadfast love, and a life well lived among the people and the place he called home.

Arrangements

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Eden Funeral Home, 231 N. Main St., Eden, TX 76837

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Eden Cemetery, Old Eden-Paint Rock Rd, Eden, TX 76837
