Valna Elizabeth Cox, 78, of San Angelo, Texas was born on October 23, 1947, in San Saba, Texas to Borden and Georgia Sauer. She passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 9, 2026.
She met the love of her life, David Perry Cox, at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas. They were married on December 28, 1968. Together they shared 54 years of marriage living in Brownwood, Lewisville, and San Angelo. He preceded her in death in 2023. Their marriage gave them four children.
Mom loved serving the Lord by working in various churches. She had jobs ranging from being a cook at a day care to working as church secretary.
While most of her adult life was plagued by health issues, her faith in Jesus never wavered. The joy of the Lord was always her strength. Despite physical challenges, she chose joy every day.
Surviving are her children; Becky (David) Bray of San Angelo, Texas; Bobby (Angie) Cox of Phoenix, Arizona; Audra (Patrick) Schultz of Saginaw, Michigan; and Noah (Zoei) Cox of Brownwood, Texas. Her grandchildren; Braden (Sarah) Cox of Lubbock, Texas; Kyndal (Kevin) Jensen of Phoenix, Arizona; Justin Bray of Okinawa, Japan; Cameron Bray of San Angelo, Texas; Ryan and Shannon Schultz of Saginaw, Michigan; Liam Sotello, Elias Cox, and Juliet Cox all of Brownwood, Texas. And one great-grandson: Jonah Jensen of Phoenix, Arizona.
She is also survived by her brother, Keith Sauer and her nephews Roy, Adam, and Aaron Sauer.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, and granddaughter Niyah Cox.
She cherished her friends, extended family, and the very special caregivers in the nursing home. These special ladies loved Mom so well and were often found visiting with her in her room. The real jewel in helping with her care was Heather Maier. She so often took care of Mom in ways we couldn’t. She truly stood in the gap.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas.
With that last breath, her body was healed and she is now with Jesus. Her faith became sight. Her earthly presence will be missed. Well done, good and faithful servant. -Matthew 25:23.
