Virginia O’Barr Denis, affectionately known as Ginnie, passed away on November 6, 2026, at the age of 86.
Born January 13, 1940, Ginnie was the youngest daughter of Justin C. and Ruth Mayfield O’Barr. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School in May 1958. That same year, on August 18, she married the love of her life, Arthur “Chico” H. Denis III, thus beginning a partnership that would become legendary as “Chico and Ginnie.”
In 1959, Chico and Ginnie moved to the ranch, where they would build a life, raise a family, and establish a legacy that would span generations. Together, they raised three children: Leslie, Mark, and Carolyn, affectionately known as “Purple.” While Chico set about building the ranch legacy, Ginnie devoted herself to building the home legacy.
Those in the agriculture industry have long recognized that behind every good man stands an even better woman. That woman was Mom. Ginnie’s love, unwavering support, and dedication to her husband, her children, and the ranch were unparalleled. She was the steady force behind the family, the heart of the home, and an essential part of everything they built together. Her influence reached far beyond the ranch gates and will continue to be felt for generations.
Ginnie also treasured her community and was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall. She especially loved the church's annual Fall Festival each October, a tradition that brought her great joy and reflected her appreciation for fellowship, family, and community.
Of all her blessings, Ginnie took particular pride in her family. She was known to say that having grandchildren made having children worthwhile! And what a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren she leaves behind.
Ginnie was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Justin O’Barr; her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Gerald Tunnell; her beloved daughter, Dr. Leslie Denis Mueller; and her brother-in-law, Dick Johnston.
She is survived by her son, Mark Denis and wife Dorothy of Vancourt, and her daughter, Carolyn “Purple” Weise and husband Rick, also of Vancourt.
Her legacy lives on through her eight grandchildren: Amanda Mueller Abright and husband John; Kevin Denis and wife Lindsey; Jessica Denis Gully and husband Travis; Ariel Mueller Grassini; Alex Mueller and wife Savanah; Collin Weise and wife Rebecca; Kate Weise Graves and husband Joseph; and Lara Weise and fiancé Nick Boogades.
She was also blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren: Barrett, Maggie, and Calder Denis; Conner, Watson, and Brodie Gully; Leo and Naomi Grassini; Adelaide, Wolfie, and Ripley Mueller; Arthur Weise; and Anne, Thomas, and Lucy Graves.
Ginnie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Denis Johnston; her brother-in-law, Dick Denis, and his wife Rosemary; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many very dear friends.
Ginnie’s life was one of love, loyalty, hard work, and devotion. She was the woman who stood beside Chico, the mother who held her family together, and the grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was watching her family grow. The home she built, the family she nurtured, and the ranch she helped sustain are lasting testaments to a life well lived.
The legacy of “Chico and Ginnie” will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
