Wesley John Davis

The world lost a true friend and gentleman on December 1, 2025, as Wesley John Davis departed his adopted home of West Texas to join his eternal family. He was 84 years old. 

Wes was born in Ogden, Utah to Bob and Charlotte Davis on April 5, 1941. He spent his formative years in both Utah and Colorado, where his father was head football coach of Colorado State University. His family also had a summer business guiding horseback trips in to the Unita Mountains of Utah. Wes joined these trips as a youngster and became very comfortable with horses, first as a wrangler and later as a guide. He would often remark in later life that few problems could not be solved with eight hours of contemplation on the back of a horse. During his youth, Wes also became proficient at fly fishing, skiing, and golf. 

Wes graduated from Colorado State University (CSU) in 1963 with a degree in economics and in 1967 with a masters of science degree. During that time, he was President of the SAE fraternity and also played on the basketball team. Following graduation, he served with the Peace Corp in Ecuador for 2 years where he became fluent in Spanish. 

Wes arrived in West Texas in the early 1970’s and assumed the position of Director of Student Services for Angelo State University (ASU). He is still remembered by former students for his wit and charm. In 1996, he left ASU to become the CEO of Concho Educators Federal Credit Union. He served as CEO until his retirement in 2004. Wes was a member of the Concho Educators FCU Board from 1979-1985 with stents as Chairman. He also served on the Mid-West District 14 Credit Union League and was voted SCMS Alumnus of the year in 2004. He was a member of the San Angelo West Rotary Club and was also part of the Lake Nasworthy Board for several years. 

Most importantly, Wes met and married Sondra in 1979 and she became his primary focus until her death in 2010. Together, they literally traveled the globe, setting foot on every continent with the exception of Antartica (although they got close in South America!). Wes and Sondra were never more in their element however as when the family came together. They especially loved their yearly beach trips with their grandchildren! 

Wes was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother Ted. He is survived by the kids he helped to raise Greg, Randy, Ginger, Deni and Jana. He also had a special place in his heart for his Colorado nieces and nephews Sharyl, Greg, Kevin, Amy as well as numerous grandchildren. 

As per his wishes, no formal services will be held. As soon as a horseback trip can be arranged, his ashes will be scattered in the Unita Mountains in keeping with the family tradition. Wes would be certain to say that there will be an extra horse for anyone who wishes to join up!
