William "Bill" Yeates

July 16, 1938 — December 6, 2022

William “Bill” Yeates, age 84 of San Angelo, TX passed away on December 6, 2022. He was born in Gibsonville, TX to Paul and Leona Yeates.

Bill graduated from Lufkin High School in 1956 and received a BS in Mathematics from the University of Houston after serving in the Air Force from 1956 – 1960. He worked as a Geophysicist in Houston, TX for many years. In 1966 he married Barbara, the love of his life, in Houston, TX. Bill was a pilot most of his life and had many interests which included astronomy, archaeology, and photography. He attained the rank of Lt. Col. in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a long time member of the Concho Valley Archaeology Society, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Concho Valley Photo Club. Bill was also the author of several books on Archaeo-Astronomy, Archaeology, History, and Aviation.

Bill was a very quiet and humble man. He preferred the peace of being alone in nature or up in the sky to being in crowded populated settings. He was a good son, husband and father. He had a very strong intellectual drive and was a lifelong learner. He pursued his interests with quiet passion. He created a great deal of work in his short time on this earth. He will be sorely missed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Yeates of San Angelo, TX; children, Becky Yeates of San Angelo, TX, Jenny Boyd of San Angelo, TX, Amy Shockley and husband Josh of Richmond, TX; grandchildren, Alex Boyd , Chris Boyd and Leilani Herrera of San Angelo, TX, Logan and Lincoln Shockley of Richmond, TX; brother, Don Yeates of Centerville, TX; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Preceding him in death is his brother Mike Yeates.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Harper Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Cemetery (Knickerbocker Catholic Cemetery) in Knickerbocker, TX.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Hospice of San Angelo.
