William H. Covert

William H. Covert (Bill), 89, passed away on June 18, 2026. He was born on September 30, 1936, in Williamstown, New Jersey, to Sara and Charles Covert.

After graduating from high school, Bill joined the United States Air Force. He then transferred to the United States Navy, completing 20 years of military service. He retired at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.


Following his military career, he worked for GTE Sylvania on a Navy project in Edzell, Scotland, where he wrote software programs in support of naval operations. During his time in Scotland, he started a Labrador Retriever breeding and training program named Birchstone Gun Dogs. He loved dogs and was an excellent trainer. His gun dogs were highly sought after from all over the world. He returned to San Angelo Texas in 2023.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Christine Covert, siblings Charles Covert and Caroline Fullbrook. Bill is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Rutledge and Teri Covert, his grandchildren, Rozz Covert and Tori Leigh Covert, eight lovely great-grandchildren, his younger brother Martin Covert of Sebec, Minnesota, numerous nieces and nephews, and the wonderful staff at Baycrest Assisted Living.

Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, and dedication to his country. His life of service and devotion leaves a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
